Snake Encounters for 2009: As time permits, thumbnails are being added below to show the snake images sent in during the 2009 calendar year. Place your cursor over each image to read its summary, and click on the hyperlinks to see additional images and/or related textual details.  In an associated project, I am organizing all the snake photos from previous years together, listed according to species of snake, so you can dig into the details about each kind of snake more easily. That takes time, but the results are worth the effort.

A large number of snake photos and encounter reports have come in since January 1. All of these include excellent photos and real-life stories, written by those who experienced them, that teach important lessons about venomous and non-venomous snakes in Texas (and by extension, every other state in the U.S.) These photos and encounter reports are being processed as time permits.

Note: As of June 1, more than 1600 emails containing numerous photos of  Texas snakes and spiders, along with encounter reports and requests for information on their identification, the dangers--if any--they pose to humans and their pets, whether they can be kept as terrarium pets (some can, others cannot or, at least, probably should not), how to properly care for them in a terrarium environment, as well as how to eradicate or, better yet, exclude them from homes and yards, etc. when they become pests, have already been received. Many have sent specimens of spiders and other bugs to be examined under the microscope. Every inquiry was answered immediately--I try to answer every email inquiry within minutes of reading it, and every telephone inquiry is answered on the spot, as all who call will testify. The photos are being processed, and a full report on every one will be posted here, before too long.
